T’s New Face Mask

T got a new facemask for when he is required to wear one. It’s an anime character that T really likes. We do our level best to not wear one if it’s not necessary. Only in stores and for visits to the chiropractor. He’s got a UA (Under Armour) one as well that we got for when he goes to train at the Dojang with his Master, Master Amy, as he gets ready for the AAU Poomsae National event in October.

When he is at the Dojang it’s just him and his master training.

He hates wearing the face masks, as most do, but only wears it when he has to do so. As soon as we leave establishments that require them they come off. Praying for an end to this nonsense soon. I believe most of what we are dealing with at this point is overkill anyhow but we are doing our best to be patient as we wait for things to fully open back up.

Upgraded Bobs Chest Gear

T has beat Bob up so much that the chest gear that was on it got worn out and was tearing apart. So we put another cheat guard on him. It’s newer and should last a long while. It’s a chest guard that T outgrew before he had ever worn it in good. But it will be put to good use now. Bob looks like a real fighter now.

New Back Door

With all we’ve been dealing with on the roof job we’ve had an issue happen with the back door. So while shopping for things we needed for a project we are doing the guy in the door department showed us a replacement backdoor that we could not pass up because it was a $339.00 door for $108.00. That was such a great deal. We needed that blessing with all we’ve been dealing with. This back door we got has the blinds built into the window. Love, love, love it!  So excited to not to be trying to fix the door and getting to replace it with something I’ve really wanted. Pictures to come once we have it installed.

Our To Do List

So on our to do list is finishing the deck, replacing the downstairs toilet because it’s off gassing where the porcelain has worn off on the inside of the toilet bowl over the years (it’s as old as this 1982 built home), and replacing our dryer.

I know I posted about our deck a while back and it’s halfway off and that is on our to do list to get back to. That’s something that I’m actually going to be able to help with if Scot let’s me...LOL!

The downstairs toilet bowl was scrubbed a while ago while it was being cleaned with something that etched it and made it porous. It’s finally gotten an odor that won’t clean away so it’s going to get replaced with a new one that we can be proud to let guests use😁.

We had to replace our washing machine in July and we were hoping to get a while longer with our dryer but it is showing signs of it finally going to RIP. It lasted a little over a month more than the washer did so we have that to be thankful for. They were both 20 year old units so they’ve served their time well. We are still trying to get whatever life it has left in it out of it before biting the bullet of buying a new one though but we are preparing for the replacement.

20 seems to be the crap number this year. 20 year old deck is toast and had to be replaced. 20 year old washer and dryer finally wearing out. 20 year old roof, which actually made it 24 years, had to be replaced. 20 year old ceiling fan wearing out and had to be replaced. More trees came down when the hurricane came through that took us 7 days to deal with that we had to cut up and burn (nothing to do with 20 other than it happening in 2020). Then you have the 2020 pandemic which has totally messed up everyone’s plans for this year🙄.

We take it all in stride though. One thing at a time. It’s just been a lot of stuff at once to deal with. God knew it was going to happen before we did. The blessing in it all is that I’ve been home instead of traveling which has saved us money that we’ve been able to put towards all that has come up. We definitely need to keep up with all that has happened so we can remember for the future. Things wear out and need attention. It’s the nature of being a home owner. Just thankful that we have the wherewithal to be able to deal with a good portion of it on our own without having to hire out for it.

Toilet, Ceiling Fan, and Wall

Upstairs toilet is fixed. We had a small leak coming from it so we decided it was probably time to change out some things that generally need replaced over time and the toilet is all better.

Next up our ceiling fan in the Master decided to die. It was only 20 years old. There’s that number 20 again🙄. We picked up a ceiling fan from Lowe’s and got that changed out.

Now onto our next fix and that’s to patch the hole we had to put in T’s wall in order to check for water damage in the crawl space. We wanted to make sure we didn’t leave any stone unturned when it comes to his room because he is crazy allergic to mold. So now that we know his crawl space is dry we can leave those side walls alone.

Scot has been all on top of it today. I help where I can but most of what needs doing he has to do so I watch until he asks for my help.

I love how quiet the new fan is. The motor was burning out on the old one. Scot and I both have to have air movement at night in order to sleep so that had to be fixed. Plus it’s the ceiling light source for the room as well. I will say this though the new lights on the new ceiling fan are crazy bright.

There’s always something to do around here. I’ve been learning a lot while watching and handing tools to Scot. I did have a chance to put some things together with the ceiling fan so all Scot had to do was take down the old and put up the new😁.

There’s never a dull moment around here. It’s been nice that I’ve been home instead of traveling as much as I was for T’s training with his coach. Things would’ve kept falling by the wayside and there’s no telling what kind of mess we’d be in if I wasn’t able to be here to oversea things while Scot works. It’s why we make such a great team too.

Just so you can have a pic to go with this post. Here’s Tucker’s past time while things are getting done.

His favorite spot. On his pillows by my side of the bed. He is so spoiled.

Water Damage Update

As you know the first roofing crew left our roof open to the elements for 7 days through several rain spells. The house took on water of course.  We’ve had a couple restoration companies come to check out the damage so we can get estimates and get the ball rolling with getting things fixed and buttoned up within our home. We had to cut a hole in T’s side wall to view the crawl space and see if water got in there. Yes, we had to do that to his newly renovated room🙄. They found no water in the crawl space...Praise the Lord!  As far as we could tell insulation is going to have to be replaced above T’s room and our room. They are having to dry out the areas before putting new insulation in. The crawl space behind our bedroom wall which is above our dining room will have to have insulation replaced and everything dried out as well. T’s room is on an end wall of our house. It had nail pops from nails backing out of the Sheetrock when they put the new facia on. What causes that to happen is when the dry wall gets wet it backs the Sheetrock nails back out of the wall. So that Sheetrock and insulation will get replaced as well. And depending on how far the water traveled there could be a possibility, and we are praying not, that they may have to address the end walls below T’s bedroom as well. We are really praying that the water didn’t travel that far though. Of course once they get going on fixing the damage we will probably find out more. Thankful the roofing company is on the hook for this and not our homeowners insurance. All of this because the first contractors had such little respect for our home and didn’t do their due diligence in keeping our home safe from the elements. The second crew though was fantastic. Our home is going to probably be crazy next week again because of this outfit coming in and the gutter guys coming to do their install of the soffit and gutters. Of course the water damage guys actually coming will be dependent upon how quickly we get the approval from the roofing company. Hoping and praying that happens quickly.

Happy International TaeKwonDo Day!!!

Getting Ready...

T will be training for AAU’s Virtual Poomsae National Event on October 24th from now until the time of the event to get his Poomsae as strong as possible for this event. Last year T brought home a Bronze from Nationals in Poomsae. This year he is hoping to bring home another medal and he’s hoping and striving for Gold. With Master Amy helping him from our home Dojang, Black Belt World, he can reach his goal. Master Amy is great at teaching Poomsae (also known as forms).

Master Amy videos him and goes over what he’s done and needs improvement on with him. And together they make the needed correction(s).

Roof Is Done!!!

The second roof crew is officially done. They’d have been done sooner but ran out of materials and then they had two rain spells to contend with on top of fixing things the first crew done wrong. So all in all this crew made up for all the junk and had a great attitude and got it done.

Now we wait to get the gutter guy out here to do the vinyl soffit and gutters. Plus we also wait for getting all the water issues dealt with inside the house. Some of which will require insulation replacement.

But at least the biggest part of the job is done and no more water will enter the home from the roof😊. We had a down pour last night with flash flood warnings and no new leaks. Woohoo🙌!!!

ServPro Appointment

ServPro came out this morning and there is still water in our home. They will be working up an estimate and emailing it to us and then we submit it to the roofing company. Now we wait and pray that no mold is growing because T and I are allergic to mold. T is even more allergic than I am.
