Footnote taken from NIV Life Application Bible:
These words of Jesus are not recorded in the Gospels. Obviously, not all of Jesus' words were written down (John 21:25 - "Now there are also many other things that Jesus did. Were everyone of them to be written, I suppose that the world itself could not contain the books that would be written."). This saying may have been passed on orally through the apostles.
