ServPro Comes In the Morning

ServPro deals with water damage in homes. We have them coming in the morning to see how much water damage might need to be dealt with because of the rain getting in when the roof was uncovered for so long from the first contractors who were working on our roof. It rained today so the second contractors didn’t get to button up the rest of the roof (putting on facia vinyl...etc.). It sure is nice to have the roof on though and to know that we are protected from the elements now.

One Entire Side Done, Other Side Almost

The crew got the entire front side done in about two hours. They are taking a lunch break and coming back and doing all they can until they run out on the back side and then they’ll be back at it in the morning to button everything up and get it finished. For all this crew has had to deal with from all the other crew did wrong they are making great progress. If they hadn’t had to fix so much that the other crew had done wrong they would be about done with the entire roof by now.

Here’s how much of the back side they got done.

Progress

We love seeing progress being made to the roof. This crew had all the tools the other crew didn’t. They are a professional crew and not hacks like the crew we had before were.

This tool in the pic below lifted all the shingles to the top of the roof. Check it out and the video.

They are three man team today getting the job done with being two men short because something they ate last night at a cuban restaurant made them throwing up sick. Even with it just being a three man team they are getting the job done. So glad this crew is here and the other crew is history. That other crew shouldn’t be working on no ones roof. They were doing the job with excellence or professionalism. These have been very professional and doing their job with excellence. Can’t say enough good things about what we are seeing from them.

So thankful to God for working it all out because it’s His house. His property. We are just caretakers of it.

Roof Challenges Again

The crew has been fighting rain today. The other crew would’ve quit and came back another day but this crew got the rest of the facia up and a whole row of shingles. Tomorrow has a clear weather forecast. They will have this roof done tomorrow. So loving the progress they are making compared to the 14 days of hardly anything done (and done wrong) by the other crew.

Castle Grey shingles l👀k great😁!!!  Can’t wait until they are all on the roof😊.

Nail Pops

Well the new roofers are doing a bang up job. Much better than the other roofers but we found this in T’s newly renovated bedroom tonight🤦🏻‍♀️.

A zoomed in photo. Not sure 🤔 what they did because that’s a nail head sticking through.

It came from them putting the new facia on somehow but how????

New Roofers

The new contractors are getting more done in a couple of hours than the other contractors did in 14days. Woohoo🙌!!!  Almost all of the old roof is off and getting ready for underlayment. This crew is one of the best crews this company has and it shows in their knowledge and in their work. Very happy to be moving forward.

They are getting so much more done. Excitement is building because we are finally getting the work done.

Roof Saga...

We met with the Manager of the company yesterday afternoon and he got to see first hand all we’ve been texting him and telling him. 14 days into a roofing job and he saw how little had been done and the shoddy work that had been done as well. He was very apologetic to us. They are bringing another crew in on Friday to get this job done right. It’s a crew that has had zero complaints from any of the clients they’ve done work for so we feel much better about things. Our complaint all along hasn’t been the company but the contractors in regards to the work being done. The company has worked well with us and given us free upgrades and a double rebate back for all the troubles we’ve had. They are going to take care of the water damage to the inside of house from where the contractors did not cover our roof like they should have been doing. We came away from the conversation with the manager feeling much much better about things and feel confident that we will have our roof finally on before the weekend is out. They may need to button up things such as gutters and the vinyl soffit once the roof is on but that won’t take much. We are excited about this finally getting done. The crew that is coming is one of the companies best crews. They are a traveling crew and they help get work done in trouble spots. It looks like they are going to be taking over all of the contractor that we had previously jobs.  So thankful our conversation with the manager went so well and he is working with us on getting this completed. Can’t wait to be able to post and show the job actually getting done😁.

My Nephew, His Wife, and their baby Serenity

So glad to see this family together and Serenity completely healthy. So totally excited for them.

My nephew, Daniel, his wife, Elizabeth, and their first born Serenity. She’s so precious.

My nephews and nieces keep making me a great aunt.  Such incredibly beautiful children too. I don’t always get to get such great pictures like these I’m showing you now. Of course my nephew did things right. He got married then had a child. All my other nephews/nieces on my families side have kids but aren’t married to their kids momma/daddy.

Homeschooling

T is enjoying doing homeschool online so much better than doing it from workbooks. It’s challenging for him doing all the quizzes that go along with this new curriculum that we are using but he will get the hang of it and do much better as he adjusts more and more to doing it all online.

The beauty in how we are doing school is I can plug in non-school days and the curriculum automatically makes the adjustments needed for spreading out the work load for those off days.  It’s makes being able to do trips more doable without being concerned about his schoolwork.

Scot and I have both been able to be more involved with helping him with his schoolwork this year. I think T is really enjoying both of our involvement this year. He’s getting undivided attention from both of his parents.

The curriculum likes to throw in a bunch of extra work and I may make adjustments where that’s concerned. As long as it’s not being too repetitive, and I know that T already has a good understanding of what he’s doing, I probably won’t make him do a ton of extra work. There won’t be a need for it if he has a good handle on it.

So glad we made this switch and I’m wishing we had made this move a lot sooner than we did. We wouldn’t have struggled as much as we had been struggling these past couple of years had we have made the switch sooner. But what’s done is done and we are moving forward having a much happier homeschool experience this year with me loosing less hair from me pulling it out....LOL!

Roofing Saga...

And theses are the days of our lives....

We’ve been trying the meet with the manager but of the roofing company all week to discuss all the issues. He can’t even be on time for an 8am appointment that he set with us. Scot can’t wait around for these people because we have our own company to run where we actually show up when we say we will to our clients. No wonder this companies crew is the way they are. Look at the example they have to follow🙄. They have got to show up when they say they will. This is two mornings we’ve been told we will be there at 8am to discuss everything. Wish people would be where they say they are going to be at the time they say they are going to be there. Scot is trying his best to deal with this company politely but they sure do make it hard. At least the roof has tarp on it now so I feel better about that. However long it takes at some point we’ll have this meeting and move forward and get our roof done.

Washing Machine

We hated the washer we bought about a month ago.  We tried and tried to get used to it and like it but couldn’t so we traded it in for this GE model that does much better than the Whirlpool we had got. It’s more noisy but at least it works the way we want it to. We are much happier with this unit.

Roof Saga...

We called an attorney over the weekend. Got some sound advice.  We have another company coming out to put tarp on our open roof incase it rains because the company we hired still hasn’t come out and put a tarp on like we have asked them to do and they said they would do. So that will be money out of our pockets for having another company come out to put tarp on.  Roof currently looks like this:
We are supposed to have rain possibly tonight and are trying to avoid any more damage to our home because of this company. Praise the Lord for connections in the service industry because we are able to go buy the tarp and get this other company we know to put it on for us. Our house water tight for now because of the other company.

Can’t believe the crazy times we are living in that we’ve had to deal with such nonsense from this roofing company and their contracted roofers.

Btw, check out the differences in the old drip edge vs. the new.

Roof Saga...

Well we took on more water with the rain last night. We have wet insulation in our crawl space. We also have a new water spot on our dining room ceiling. No telling what other water damage we may have that we can’t see.

This entire time that we’ve been dealing with this company the roofers have never arrived before 10am to go to work. I’ve never known roofers like this at all. I’m concerned about the other damage that is happening to our home because of their lack of professionalism in getting this job done in a timely manner. Today makes 11 days since the initial start of this project.

Roof Saga...

When you’ve had a roof replaced how long has it taken the roofers to put the new roof on?  Just asking because we are about to be on day 14 on Tuesday and from the start of this project there was miscommunication between the sales rep to their employer and then to the roofers about what we had asked to be done for our roof. Then their was misinformation about the product we chose so we decided to nix the product and just go back to 40 year shingles which they delivered the very next morning. And now the roofers left the ridge vent over our sons room that we just recently renovated uncovered and it’s raining again. I’m so over this roof job and just want it done. Now all we can do is sit and pray God’s protection over the roof and our sons newly renovated room. And ask that you pray with us that no more damage happens to our home. Thank you.

Roof Saga...

Well they showed up today with the new underlayment that they had to go to Greensboro to get yesterday because it wasn’t delivered with the new materials that were delivered a couple of days ago. They took the underlayment that we didn’t want off and put the new on the two sections of our roof that the old has been taken off of. They got started doing the shingles on one of the sections as you’ll see in the pictures but that’s all they got done today. Here are some pictures.

New but better underlayment.

This is our old worn out roof next to the new being put on. Wishing more progress were being made but at least progress is being made. This Tuesday will be 14 days they have been on site doing this project. Granted changes were made because of miscommunication but there will not be anymore of that so it should be straight forward and the work should get done in a more timely fashion. At least you would think but it’s still slow moving😞.

Now Scot just came in and told me they left the ridge vent uncovered over T’s room. The room we just renovated in November and we are due rain tonight/tomorrow. He called the guys and their response was we’ll be there in the morning😡😡😡. Now Scot is calling Patrick (he’s the big wig at the company we hired). It’s never ending for us🙄🤦🏻‍♀️.

3 Dan Certificate and Wallet Card

Today we finally picked up T’s 3rd degree certificate and wallet card. It’s been ready since February but we were getting ready for US Open at the time and then the Pandemic hit and it’s taken until now to physically get it.

Roof Saga

Well it continues and this is how the house has looks for several days now.

They finally showed up today, after new materials have been sitting here for two full days🙄. When they started doing through the packing list the new, better, underlayment was not with the supplies😳. There was none to be had in our area so they had to drive to Greensboro to get it. Needless to say a third day of the new materials just sits not being put on because not all supplies needed for the job was dropped off🤦🏻‍♀️.  So looking forward to getting to the end of this job already. It’s no wonder we do so much stuff ourselves when we can because we really don’t like dealing with the nonsense we’ve had to deal with on getting this job done.

Praise Report

Praise report time. Serenity’s white blood cell counts are back to normal and they could not find anything wrong with her. God’s healing hand touched her and she’s coming home. Praise the Lord! Josh 23:10; Lev. 26:8 in action!!!  Thank you all for praying!!!

Prayers

Prayers for God’s healing hand to touch my great niece, Serenity Grace Harris. She’s a newborn and sick and still in the hospital. Her parents (my nephew and his wife) had to leave the hospital without her yesterday. I don’t know all the details but God does. Praying for His angels to guard round about her keeping her safe and healing her from the top of her head to the souls of her feet. That her little body functions to the perfection to which God created it to function. In Jesus Name! Join me in praying for her. (I copied these photos of her to share)

Weather

Just saw this on WRAL’s weather page.

Roof Saga....

Well they didn’t come yesterday which would’ve been a great day to get a ton of work done. It wasn’t too hot. It was dry. It was really a beautiful day except nothing got done to the roof. Now we have had a down pour happening out there this morning so all that had gotten dry is now all wet again. I just hope their won’t be any more water damage🙄😒. I’m just shaking my head because of the daylight that has been burned on this project and it still not getting done just astounds me. That’s all for this update. Doubt they’ll make it here today with the rain and all🤦🏻‍♀️.  Here’s how our house currently looks:

The sun is in and out and rain has been off and on. It poured this morning but you wouldn’t be able to tell that in the picture with the beautiful blue sky in the background.

Weather...

I found this interesting. Not sure how reliable this site is but it’s still interesting.

Roof Saga...

New materials were delivered at 10am this morning. The roofers were a no show today. It was a perfect weather day that a lot could have been done on the roof. I really hope and pray there isn’t anymore drama going on between them and the company🙄. We just wanna get this job done already. We know exactly what we are doing now and I just want them to get it done. Hate that with such great weather the day was completely wasted😒.

Just wanted to share...

This is why...

This verse is why even in the midst of all we’ve been dealing with we’ve been able to just keeping moving forward and not be needlessly worried about any of it. We know God will deal with whatever hard things come up.

New Roofing Material

The new roofing material has arrived. We went with a 40 year shingle because of all the companies miscommunication about the metal roofing system. It was going to cause us more problems than it was worth to put on. We are happy with the decision and looking forward to moving forward and getting this roof done.

Homeschool 2020-2021 Has Begun

T started 6th grade today. We made the move from workbooks to all online schooling with the Monarch Curriculum through AOP.

He likes the new online curriculum that he’s using so much that he wanted to get started on tomorrow’s work tonight. Should’ve made the move to online from workbooks long ago. Who’d have known he’d like it so much?!?!
Here’s a pic of him with his new laptop:

Roof Saga...

Well, this has been so difficult from the very start of when the roofers came to confirm instructions.  We did research and found things out that we weren't entirely comfortable with concerning the roof.  So to make a long story short we have decided to do away with the metal roof and we have went with a 40 year shingle roof.  There were too many issues with the metal roof that we were uncomfortable with to address in a blog post but we are happy with what we've chosen to do. It has been a crazy and stressful 7 days and something good shouldn't cause this much stress.  Just glad we are finally feeling better about things and we are saving money to boot.  The metal concept is a good one but it's just not a good one to do with this particular company that we've been dealing with is all.  So we will post more when we have some real results to post.

Weather

This is what we will be dealing with the rest of the today and tomorrow.

Roof Saga...

Well it’s been raining or storming off and on since yesterday evening. While we had a moment of no rain we started checking things out to see what or if we are taking on water damage because of the job being left like it was yesterday before the rain hit. Here’s what the roof looks like from the outside.

This is the water damage we are taking on because of how they left things yesterday. This first picture is a crawl space.

This second picture is where our dinning room and stairway are.

We tried to call the company to let them know what we are dealing with here because there’s more rain to come this afternoon into the evening and possibly into tomorrow. We are documenting everything incase we need it.

Rain Rain Go Away!!!

It’s been pouring the rain for most of the evening but so far things are staying dry. All this rain has me a little concerned😬 just because we have no gutters right now and because a portion of the roof doesn’t have any real protection on it. But I know God has our back and will take care of whatever comes. We’ve been under a flood advisory for most of the evening. The advisory is supposed to end at 10:45pm. I’m hoping with the advisory goes the rain as well. Crazy weather and crazy times as well. Dealing with getting this roof done has been a challenge and I will be so glad when it’s finished but while we are in the midst of getting it done I’m praying God’s protection over our home to keep us safe, sound, and healthy. Thank you God for always having our backs no matter what may come.

Roof Saga...

Well when they left today they left the roof like this:

Now we have a thunderstorm going on and a ton of lightning play. I took pictures of T’s ceiling in his room just incase we are to have any leaks. We just remodeled his room in November so if any damage happens to it we will have a record of how it looked before the rain storms this evening.

As you see there are no water stains on his room ceiling. This is being posted just to have a record and date stamp.
