Roofing Saga...

This will be the title of my posts until the roof is done. It really has been a saga. The company we hired and the actual roofers having issues with one another and we, the client, are in the middle dealing with it all. They didn’t arrive until between 10-10:30 this morning and they left about 12:15 for lunch. Seriously!!!  They have been here all of two hours and have only gotten a portion of the front of the house done with the vinyl soffit cover and that’s all they’ve done today but what they have done does look good though.

But to say it has been a nightmare would be an understatement. And it’s all been people issues. We have great faith in the product and are very excited to be getting it put on but dealing with the employee/employer issues have been awful.

So the Saga Continues

This company we hired has issues and aren’t treating their installers with the integrity that they should. As a result it’s been two days of the on-site project manager dealing with the office manager on technicalities and the job not moving forward as quickly as possible. As a business owner can I get mad at the installation guys when they are the ones getting screwed over by the company we hired?  Not really. They came close to walking off the job today because of how they are being treated. When you have a crew doing installs of a product you are selling the last thing you want to do is anger the crew or the people you’ve sold said product to. It has been a whirlwind of a week so far. But we keep getting things for the inconveniences so there’s that.

Roofing Update

The roofing company gave us double our rebate plus new vinyl soffit, metal wrap for the new facia boards, and new gutters for all the miscommunication from them to the roofers for our job.

The project leader onsite is allergic to bees. As you have seen in my earlier post they have ran across a wasps nest taking down the old facia boards. No one got stung dealing with the first be.  They ran across a second one taking off more facia boards and the project leader got stung two maybe three times. He took Benadryl immediately and kept his epipen near by just in case he needed it. Needless to say that needed their work for the day yesterday when that happened.

Not much has gotten done but we are hoping they make great strides today. We have several cans of wasp spray available for today. Praying they come prepared for the wasps today. We were hoping they’d get here before the wasps get too active but that’s not our problem because we told them they could come as early as 6am if they wanted in order to deal with the wasps but they still haven’t arrived.

Here’s a picture of all the product that’s going on the roof.

Also, here’s a before picture of the front and back of our roof.

Wasps, Wasps, and More Wasps

So the roofers got started and took down the gutters and facia wood on the back and front of the house and found wasps. We now know where all the wasps were coming from in the winter months when we’d have warm days and they’d make their way into the house😳.

Roofing

Well the roofers were supposed to start yesterday on our roof but while loading our materials at the warehouse the forklift broke down. So the roofer came by to go over the instructions he has from his boss with us last night to make sure everyone is on the same page so they can get started today and there was miscommunication (in this day in age is that a surprise🙄). So we had to get that all straightened out last night so they can start the job today. They are on their way. Not sure how much they will get done today because they have burned so much daylight already🙄. We told them yesterday to come as early as they wanted to get started. We’ve been up since 7am because they said to us, “Is coming between 6:30-7am ok?”, and we said yes. This is the world in which we live today. People not arriving when they say they will. Most companies in general giving you a window of time that they will come and you having to be available for that entire time frame waiting on them. That is not how we run our company at all. And we’ve surprised a lot of folks not expecting us to be on time too. Crazy world we live in today. Oh well. Time to go burn the remaining 8 logs of wood and the little stuff we have left while I wait for these guys to arrive. I will be so glad to not be smelling like smoke anymore and to have this new roof on😁.

YouTube is Back Up

They reviewed my account and said I wasn’t in violation and let me keep the video of T learning how to use a chainsaw. Woohoo!

YouTube Update

So obviously uploading a video of T learning how to use a chainsaw and him cutting up a tree is in violation of YouTube’s rules and regulations and I had no clue it would be. I’m praying this problem gets fixed soon and I don’t lose all the videos I have stored. So many videos and no way to get them back if they decide to delete my account. I’m so undone right now. I’m figuring they are considering it a child safety issue. Cutting up a tree with his Dad is safer than most everything else he does. I mean he’s a TaeKwonDo Fighter, he rides a dirtbike on a pretty regular basis, and he does all kinds of trampoline tricks. That is more dangerous on any given day than running a chainsaw with your Father instructing and teaching you. If learning a life skill is child endangerment I’m even more concerned about where our world is heading. Seriously don’t understand how that was a violation. He was so safe.  Still shaking my head at what the powers that be deem to be a child safety issue.  Really unreal.

YouTube Problems

I’ve been suspended from YouTube on my main account that has all the videos I’ve ever uploaded on this blog. I still have no clue what I did wrong???  I have emailed them in hopes to get this sorted out quickly but most of my video links on this blog page will not work until I get this resolved. I’m now using another account so that I can continue to upload videos for you all. I’ll let you know when it’s been resolved and what the problem was. Thanks for always continuing to stay in touch with us through this blog. As always I do my best to be above board in all I do so if I accidentally do something that goes against privacy policies, which I’m usually unaware of, I’m quick to fix the problem.  Hoping the link will work again soon for you but until then I’m using another account.

Progress

Tree Cutting

T got to run the chainsaw for the 1st time today with his Dads guidance and watching over him every step of the way. Learning new skills is always fun. Now he wants to cut more trees...LOL!

RIP Oak Tree

The week prior to the hurricane we thought our tall Oak took a lightning strike. It most definitely did which weakened it for the hurricane to take off the top portion of our beautiful Oak and put it on the ground. It took several branches from another tree with it and busted our light pole as well which Duke had to come repair. What a couple of weeks it’s been. Poor Oak. We keep losing our Oaks and Pines😕.

Most of the big stuff is all burned up now. Took four days so far. Hoping tomorrow we can get the rest of our big stuff taken care of.  It’s been four years with several storms (including thunder storms 🌩, tornadoes 🌪, and hurricanes) that have taken one tree after another out. We are definitely so far past over having to clean up tree damage all the time. And we still have probably 10 big Oaks on the ground in our wooded areas that will take $20,000 to take care of that came down during a tornado 🌪 that came through a while back. Needless to say they just lay for now because that ain’t in the budget. There are more important things that we need to do with our money. At some point it will get taken care. For now we do our part to clean up all that we can ourselves. The cleanup never ends for us but it feels good when we get to where we are seeing that we are making headway in what we are trying to get accomplished. #thesearethedaysofourlives

Controlled Burning

We’ve never had issues ever getting a controlled burned going. These past two days trying to burn so we can pile more and keep the burn going has been horrible. Then right when we finally getting it brining good and making headway a storm rolls in🙄😒😡. Check it in the video below.

Got a few pictures as well. A couple of Tucker having fun with the empty water bottles. Gotta stay hydrated. Then a couple of Scot and I and our messy selves. Then I got a pic of the sky showing the storm line.

At least we did have it ablaze even though it was short lived.

Never in all my born days have I dealt with such obstinate issues as we’ve been having with trying to get things done. It will be days before we can get back at it unless things dry out faster than we think 🤔 they will. #gettingthingsdoneprobs

Trampoline is Done

Well we are going to see if we can replace this part but if not we’ll be looking to get a new trampoline before next Spring. It’s one of T’s favorite things to do. Hate it ripped. We can’t even remember the brand so we are hoping they are made the same across the board.

Done For The Day

Done for the day. Showers, clothes to the wash, and grill some bbq chicken for dinner😁.

I know. I know. I look a site...LOL! Too bad y’all can’t see all the dead gnats on our bodies stuck to our sweat🤢.

Security Camera Footage

This video shows the exact moment when the mess happened. We were solidly asleep. Never heard anything.

Hurricane Isaias 2020 continued...

This was about the time frame that the tree came down taking branches from another tree with it and taking out our pole light in the yard. Gotta put a call in to Duke so they can put us on the list for a repair. We may have to cut a tree or two down because of how damaged they are. Fun times. I have to take more breaks than my husband because the heat mixed with allergies from the trees cause me to have asthma issues. Scot trucks along though. Wish I could. I help as much as I can though.

The green swirl between Rocky Mount and Raleigh is where we are.

Hurricane Isaias 2020

Another Oak bit the dust and took several limbs from another tree with it.  Plus it bent our light on the light pole in our yard. Now Duke Power gets to come out and fix it after we get it all cleaned up so they can get to it.

By the way, this makes four years in a row that we’ve had some kind of tree damage. Crazy weather.

Sunset

Gorgeous sunset view from the front of our house.

(No Filter)

It’s just another reminder of how awesome our God is!!!  The creator of heaven and earth gives us such beauty to look upon and be reminded of Him. I’m so thankful for His poignant reminders such as this view. It brings such calm in the midst of all the ugly that keeps going on in our world. Thank you Lord for always bringing beauty out of the ashes of our world. May we, Christ Followers, always take time out to see You throughout our days and nights. I praise You for I am fearfully and wonderfully made by You. You know my beginning and end and everything in between. You are such an amazing God and even though I say I love you Lord all the time it seems so trite when You show Youself  to me. Your love for me goes so much deeper than just saying the words and I know that You already know that my love for you goes deeper than just saying the words as well. May I always strive to honor You in all that I do and may our son always pursue a life built on Your unshakable foundation. May we Stand Firm on Your Word and show ourselves approved to You!  God Heal this Nation and our World. Help us as a nation to turn our gaze back to you like the gaze I had tonight looking upon this beautiful sunset that You created. Praise, Honor, and Glory to you alone Lord!

The Boy is Growing

As we were driving today I looked back and saw just how much our boy is growing and had Scot get a picture.
His feet are touching the floor very easily now plus his head is actually touching the headrest now.

Aunt Bea's Restaurant

We ended our day by having dinner at Aunt Bea's.  It was a good BBQ place and it was nice to sit inside a restaurant and eat for the first time since this pandemic has had us housebound.  They had plenty of room and had the seating arranged so that you were able to easily social distance.  Today felt like the first normal day we've had in quite some time.  Mount Airy is such a quaint little town.  I've lived here all my life and never visited there.  Glad we had the chance to do it today.
