Homeschool 2020-2021 Has Begun

T started 6th grade today. We made the move from workbooks to all online schooling with the Monarch Curriculum through AOP.

He likes the new online curriculum that he’s using so much that he wanted to get started on tomorrow’s work tonight. Should’ve made the move to online from workbooks long ago. Who’d have known he’d like it so much?!?!
Here’s a pic of him with his new laptop:

Roof Saga...

Well, this has been so difficult from the very start of when the roofers came to confirm instructions.  We did research and found things out that we weren't entirely comfortable with concerning the roof.  So to make a long story short we have decided to do away with the metal roof and we have went with a 40 year shingle roof.  There were too many issues with the metal roof that we were uncomfortable with to address in a blog post but we are happy with what we've chosen to do. It has been a crazy and stressful 7 days and something good shouldn't cause this much stress.  Just glad we are finally feeling better about things and we are saving money to boot.  The metal concept is a good one but it's just not a good one to do with this particular company that we've been dealing with is all.  So we will post more when we have some real results to post.

Weather

This is what we will be dealing with the rest of the today and tomorrow.

Roof Saga...

Well it’s been raining or storming off and on since yesterday evening. While we had a moment of no rain we started checking things out to see what or if we are taking on water damage because of the job being left like it was yesterday before the rain hit. Here’s what the roof looks like from the outside.

This is the water damage we are taking on because of how they left things yesterday. This first picture is a crawl space.

This second picture is where our dinning room and stairway are.

We tried to call the company to let them know what we are dealing with here because there’s more rain to come this afternoon into the evening and possibly into tomorrow. We are documenting everything incase we need it.

Rain Rain Go Away!!!

It’s been pouring the rain for most of the evening but so far things are staying dry. All this rain has me a little concerned😬 just because we have no gutters right now and because a portion of the roof doesn’t have any real protection on it. But I know God has our back and will take care of whatever comes. We’ve been under a flood advisory for most of the evening. The advisory is supposed to end at 10:45pm. I’m hoping with the advisory goes the rain as well. Crazy weather and crazy times as well. Dealing with getting this roof done has been a challenge and I will be so glad when it’s finished but while we are in the midst of getting it done I’m praying God’s protection over our home to keep us safe, sound, and healthy. Thank you God for always having our backs no matter what may come.

Roof Saga...

Well when they left today they left the roof like this:

Now we have a thunderstorm going on and a ton of lightning play. I took pictures of T’s ceiling in his room just incase we are to have any leaks. We just remodeled his room in November so if any damage happens to it we will have a record of how it looked before the rain storms this evening.

As you see there are no water stains on his room ceiling. This is being posted just to have a record and date stamp.

Roof Saga...

Progress was made today.

Roofing Saga...

Well they showed back up today. They have begun taking off the roof. They are getting so much more done today than in days prior. Now we are praying it doesn’t rain on them. It has been so overcast today but the sun has peaked out.

Roofing Saga...

So the roofers didn’t come back until around 2:45 today from lunch. When they got back they did a tiny bit of work and left around 4pm. As they left this time we watched through our security cams as they packed up all of their equipment which they had been just leaving at the back of our house on days prior.  They left stuff scattered on our lawn and didn’t clean up behind themselves. My front stoop was a mess and I had to sweep it. Nails and water bottles laying around that we had to pick up. Isn’t this stuff the contractors should be doing?  I agree that they should be picking up after themselves. But now we are wondering since they packed all their equipment up will they be coming back???

Ya know this morning the lead guy spent probably 30-45 minutes on the phone and his crew just stood around while he was talking. So of the two hours that they were on property this morning prior to lunch they only did maybe an hour to an hour and 15 minutes of actual work.

When Scot and I need to tackle a project we get on top of it as quickly as possible. I’ll give our deck as an example. We’ve been trying to get our deck fixed. We’ve gotten started on it but we’ve had other things get in the way of our completing it. The weather being the main issue. It rained so much that we’ve been unable to get back to it and when we finally had weather to get back to it we had other things to deal with like a tree that came down in a bad thunderstorm a week or so prior to the hurricane. Then the hurricane come through and took out two more trees. For 7 days (with some afternoon storms) we dealt with nothing but trees and getting it all burned up. Let me tell you that’s some real hard work but we tackled it as fast as possible.  We expect the same from anyone who does work for us. Needless to say these roofers have been far from on the level we are when it comes to getting a job done. There’s lots of folks that they’d still be dealing with the tree damage we had but we got in there and knocked it out quickly.

We were told this roof was a two to three day job. Tomorrow will be day four and all that’s been done is some new facia wood has been put on in the front and back and a little bit of vinyl over some of the facia wood and some of the soffit and that’s all that’s been done. I know the roofers and the company we hired for the job are having issues but that doesn’t make it ok to leave a client hanging like they have us. Tomorrow will be day four. I’m praying the weather holds out and they show up and get some real work done. We’ll see. I’ll have more on the saga update as things develop.

We have been somewhat frustrated because we expect better than what we’ve gotten but we know God knew all this was going to happen before it happened. We know God is in control and we trust in Him for the completion of this roof job even with all that has gone on. We know God has got our back and we are not worried about the outcome because God will take care of it.

School Starts Monday for T

We are getting all geared up for T to start school on Monday with his first all online curriculum. We are going to be using Monarch’s online curriculum this school year. We ordered him a laptop, wireless mouse, and mousepad.
