Made Weight!!!

T weighed in at 31.3 kilos. That equates to 69 lbs. He can’t weigh over 33 kilos which equates to 72.8 lbs. Such an easy weigh in. We’ve learned how to reel his junk eating in before events then he is good to go😁.  He’s playing games while waiting to watch his friends fight.

Getting Ready...

We are getting ready for traveling tomorrow to Florida for US Open.  It seems that I just got home and we will be heading out again.  Life is busy but we wouldn't trade it for anything.

Tomorrow we travel to the grands place in Florida.  Once there we will be in contact with T's coach to what he wants him doing and where he wants us to meet up with him.  T will still need to train to keep his cardio up and stay limber for his fight this weekend at US Open.  It is one of the biggest events of the year.  T is always learning and growing as an athlete.  He has such a great coach in Master Wasiu and we are so thankful that God brought us all together for T's benefit.  It has been the most beneficial thing we are done for T in his competition journey thus far.

T will weigh in on Saturday and fight on Sunday at US Open.  It is being held at Disney this year.  He is looking forward to also getting to see his teammates fight as well.  This will be the first year that T will have multiple team members that are attending this event as well and he is very excited about it.

After the event we are hoping to do a day at Disney.  He wants to do the park that has just open the Star Wars section.  Not sure which one that is but we will find out when we get down there.

I've been working hard to get ready for our trip.  The dog had to have a vet visit today to get a vaccine to be boarded.  T and I both had Chiropractor visits today.  I've been doing laundry and packing today and trying to make sure my home is somewhat clean for when my mom comes to watch the dog for us so that he doesn't have to be boarded the entire time that we are gone.  It's a ton of prep that has to be done and with my being gone for an entire month while T was training with his coach and team you can imagine how my house looked like a bachelor pad...LOL!  The house still may not be the best when my mom comes but it will be better than it has been and that's about the best I can hope for these days...LOL!

That's about all for now.  I'll post later on after T has competed at US Open to let everyone know of his first experience competing at this high of a level in a new age and weight division.

There’s more to coaching...

There’s more to coaching then just conditioning and drills. Sometimes a coach has to help athletes with sore muscles. Training to be the best is not easy. It’s hard work. T has such a great coach. But nothing happens without an entire team of coaches to help keep an athlete at their prime.

They took some team pictures tonight. The team came home from the weekends tournament with 9 Gold Medals and 3 Bronze. They all did so good. So proud of our team. We are minus one team member, Chris, in these pictures. Next time we’ll get them all in the picture(s).

Snow ❄️ in GA!

It snowed for the most part of the day today while at the tournament. Thought I’d share a couple of pictures. They probably got a couple of inches down there. 





Gold in Forms! Another Double Gold!

T got gold in forms. He didn’t have anyone to compete against and did an exhibition round and got his gold medal in forms and qualified for Nationals. Another Double Gold!

T fought his teammate from our sister school and won 31-10 in a point gap. It was Sebastian’s first time using the e-gear but he did well his first time out. T did much better at listening to his coach today than he has in the past. Over all it’s been a great day so far. Still waiting for the Forms portion of the day.  





Fight Update

Well T will be fight a kid from our sister school today so there will no coach in the chairs for them. This will just be practice for them basically. They’ll both qualify and both get to go to Nationals. T gets an automatic Gold or Silver depending on how he does against this kid.

Weigh In for AAU GA Qualifier

So T weighed in at 31.65 kilos. That converts to 69.77 pounds. He has to be under 33 kilos which converts to 72.8 pounds. And he did it not hungry for a change. 


Now we have an early dinner and relax and rest for the rest of the evening😁.

Severe Weather....

Well we have had severe weather in our area in Charlotte today. We were supposed to be traveling home today to get ready for our travel for the AAU GA Qualifier this weekend but instead Scot will travel our way tomorrow. 

A tornado 🌪 hit in Concord and we had a tornado warning ⚠️ here with lots of rain 🌧, wind 💨, and debris but we are fine. 

Because we are staying T will get extra training today and this evening so it is benefiting him that we are staying put. We were heading home for an appointment but felt it was better not to risk safety by driving in bad weather. 

We take this as a sign from God that there’s a reason T needed to be here today and tonight for training. It could be that something could be said or done that will up his fight game even more and help him to do even better this weekend???  You never know the reasons really for things happening the way they do but God sometimes reveals the whys at a later time. So we’ll wait, watch, and see what comes of our staying put here and not traveling home.

About the Author

Jim Afremow, PhD, is a sports psychologist and licensed counselor at Arizona State University. A Week In Review...

This past week T had to get back into the swing of training again.  By the end of the week his speed was improving a lot.  That is really good.  Praying and Hoping that T improves more as each week goes by and as he learns to have more confidence in what he's doing and as he learns to trust himself more.  He's learning so much right now because of moving to a new division.  It's a lot to take in but he's up for the task.  We know he can do what needs to be done.

With a new division means that the pressure on the electronic chest gear that is used also changes.  He now needs to learn to apply more pressure when doing his techniques.  It's something he has to keep in mind when he's sparring so that he kicks with more pressure to the chest gear when he is fighting a match.  Everything for T is electronic now which includes the headgear.  He will learn so much as he goes through this year in a new division.

Today we came home to spend time with Scot and will go back to Matthews tomorrow evening.  It's good to be home even if it's just for twenty-four hours...LOL!
